You May Request a Copy of a Police Report

Criminal Reports

Criminal reports are considered Open Record, providing the case has been cleared through court, declined for prosecution or closed.

The West Fargo Police Department requests that a person or business that requests a copy of a criminal report are to fill out a Request for Release of Information form which is available at the West Fargo Police Department. The cost is $0.25 per page. Pictures included with police report will be available for $2.00 per print. Waiting period is usually one day.

Accident Reports

Accident reports are $7.00 for the front and back page. However, the portion of a law enforcement officer's accident report containing the officer's opinion regarding responsibility for the accident is confidential and may be disclosed by the director of the North Dakota Department of Transportation upon payment of a $5 fee only to a party to the accident, a party's legal representative, or the insurer of any party to the accident if that opinion is material to a determination of liability for the accident.

The West Fargo Police Department requests that a person or business that requests a copy of an Accident report fill out a Request for Release of Information form which is available at the West Fargo Police Department.

Waiting period usually is 5 to 7 days. We cannot release an accident report until a West Fargo Police Department Sergeant has signed the accident report.

Individual Record Check from the West Fargo Police Department

The West Fargo Police Department requests that a person or business that requests a copy of an Individual Record Check fill out a Request for Release of Information form which is available at the West Fargo Police Department. The cost of this Individual Record Check is $10.00 per person. Waiting period is usually 3 to 5 days, depending on each individual record.

Law Enforcement Records of a Child

North Dakota State Century Code prohibits certain records be released to the public including parents if the cases involve Social Service's reports and/or Juvenile reports.
